FIRECRAFT
Firecraft for all practical purposes is the art and skill of having fire. This seems simple but that is what it boils down too. Understanding that having a fire is a necessity not a luxury is very important. Having the right fire is also very important. In most camping situations a fire area will be provided. If you are wilderness camping then care should be taken to preserve the natural area. Conservation is good stewardship to the resources that God has given us.
PREPERATION
Prepare an area large enough for your needs. Basically clear an area of six foot diameter. That does not mean rape the land just clear the area of combustable material. The area should be on level ground and you should be able to see the sky clearly overhead. No overhanging branches or limbs that might catch fire. Once the area is chosen and cleared prepare the area for the fire itself. You do not want to have too large a fire area but one that meets your needs. If you are using it for cooking then this will also influence where you put the fire and how large it is. The type of fire is also a consideration. Once these discissions have been made you can start gathering the wood for the fire. Remember that there are 3 types of wood you need.
